Cling Film
It is a thin, transparent, plastic material, typically used for sealing food items in containers to keep them fresh. It’s typically sold on rolls in boxes with a cutting edge, clings to many smooth surfaces and can thus remain tight over the opening of a container without adhesive. The most important role it plays in food packaging is protection and preservation. It can prevent food from perishing, extend its shelf-life, and maintain the quality of food.
Cling film generally protects food from three aspects: chemical (gases, moisture, and light), biological (microorganisms, insects and animals), and physical (mechanical damage). It could be made of different types of plastic, mainly 4 types, PVC, PE, PVDC & PMP. Among them, PE and PVC is most commonly used. PVC cling film is usually used for fruit and vegetable packaging, and PE cling film has a wide range of applications. PE cling film can wrap oily food, and it can also be heated in a microwave oven.
